Doping Effects on the Thermoelectric Properties of AgSbTe2

Measured thermopower and resistivity indicate a shift of the power factor peak toward the lower-temperature regime. The measured figure of merit ZT increases from 0.5 to 1.2 after doping with NaSe, and 1.05 with TlTe, at 400 K. We also show that doping with Bi and Pb has a negative effect on the thermoelectric properties of these alloys.

Polycrystalline, sintered samples of p-type AgSbSexTe2−x (x = 0−0.04) were prepared from high purity elements by a melt-quench technique followed by spark plasma sintering. X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry thermal analysis indicate that a small amount of Se doping (x ≥ 0.02) can effectively inhibit the emergence of the Ag2Te and Ag0.35Sb0.09Te0.56 impurity phases.
